Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Wins First Title in Over Two Years

19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his maiden championship for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult season, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in especial - caused him falling of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-term coach Cervara.

Currently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents his initial trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface from that period of the previous year.

The win also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one victories at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a championship is really nice," said ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to doubt if his capacity to play at the highest level was concluded.

However the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing four of the final five games to take the lead.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a third set.

The opponent defended four early-game chances in a tight deciding set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, he clinched the title with a point at the net area, with his opponent unable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
